01/30/17 – 02/03/17

8th Grade English (Periods 1, 2, 3, 5B, 6, 7, 8):
Monday (01/30): Students will discuss and view examples of the close read sections in “Barrington Irving, Pilot and Educator.” We will examine specific annotations for these examples and why they were chosen. Students will discuss responses for the “Analyze the Text” section on page 270.
Tuesday (01/31): Progress chart: students will chart progress on annotating. Students will then examine page 271 together in the textbook. Students will read the analyze craft and structure section and complete a practice worksheet on these items. This worksheet is homework for tomorrow if it is not completed during class today. Students will also read and complete the practice section on page 271. We will discuss these questions together. Students will take a quiz on characterization on Friday.
Wednesday (02/01): As a class, we will check answers to the worksheet on characterization. Students will chart their progress after checking this worksheet. If needed, students will complete another practice worksheet on characterization in order to prepare for the quiz on Friday.
Thursday (02/02): Students will complete page 272 in the textbook on the concept vocabulary for the “Barrington Irving…” article. We will discuss responses together and chart progress.
Friday (02/03): Students will take a quiz on characterization (direct and indirect). After the quiz, students will work on a practice worksheet for the concept vocabulary from the magazine article. We will check responses together. Students will chart progress with concept vocabulary.
