Monday
·         Reading 8 – Students will be introduced to the course by reviewing the course syllabus. Students and T will also discuss classroom procedures, rules, and expectations. T and students will discuss goals for the school year and how we will work toward achieving these goals. Students will complete a student information sheet.

·         English 8 – Students will be introduced to the course by reviewing the course syllabus. Students and T will also discuss classroom procedures, rules, and expectations. T and students will discuss goals for the school year and how we will work toward achieving these goals. Assign grammar textbooks. Students will complete a student information sheet.
Tuesday
·         Reading 8 – Students will be introduced to the course by reviewing the course syllabus. Students and T will also discuss classroom procedures, rules, and expectations. T and students will discuss goals for the school year and how we will work toward achieving these goals. Students will complete a student information sheet.

·         English 8 – Students will receive their vocabulary notebooks and the list of vocabulary terms that we will be defining and working with throughout the year. Students will use dictionaries to define the first two lists today in class. Students must provide a definition, the part(s) of speech, and one sentence for each word in their vocab. notebook.  We will review/discuss the terms tomorrow in class and students will take a test on these words on Thursday.
Wednesday
·         Reading 8 – Students will play interview bingo to begin to create a collaborative community within the classroom. Students will complete a reading survey reflecting on their personal reading habits and past experiences. T will then explain AR to students and discuss how to choose a book that is appropriate. We will be going to the library on Friday to choose books for AR. Students will also receive their reading log books.

·         English 8 – Students will discuss the vocabulary terms that were defined yesterday. As a class, we will discuss how each word can be used in context and techniques for determining their meanings using context clues.
Thursday

·         English 8 – Students will take a test on the first set of vocabulary terms. When finished, students will then begin to brainstorm about introductions. As a class, we will discuss what we already know about introductions. Students will then look at sample introductions and discuss what makes an effective introduction in writing. This is in preparation for a persuasive essay that students will begin next week.
Friday
·         Reading 8 – Library to choose books for AR. Students will learn how books are categorized and where to find books appropriate for their grade level. Students must sign out a novel from the library today for use with AR.

·         English 8 – Students will continue discussing introductions together. Students will practice writing an introduction of their own using the techniques discussed in class. Students will also discuss the writing process and examine its elements.
