Monday (01/28): Media Selection: Pearson Realize – p. 324-325 in textbook and discuss responses to questions. Begin Mid-Year Test on paper copy and submit on Pearson Realize.com.
·         Study Island – Individual practice session on central ideas in informational texts is due on Thursday.

Tuesday (01/29): Continue the mid-year test (if more time is needed today). When finished, students will begin writing their TDA on evaluating arguments. They must create a bug organizer first, and then write their essay response in paragraph format on lined paper. Completed bug and TDA is due Friday. Students will work on the organizer and essay in class.
·         Study Island – Individual practice on central ideas in informational texts is due Thursday.

Wednesday (01/30): Work on TDA organizer and essay.
·         Study Island – Individual practice on central ideas due tomorrow.

Thursday (01/31): Work on TDA response in class. Completed bug and essay is due tomorrow.
·         Study Island – Central ideas is due today.

Friday (02/01): Turn in completed bug and TDA essay. Students will then begin unit 2 in the textbook: The Holocaust. We will complete the unit introduction today (goals, vocabulary, and launch text with summary and quick write prompt).
·         Study Island – New topic: Character – group session on character in Study Island.

Monday (01/14): Students will work in groups on work in textbook for “Words Do Not Pay” and complete the practice worksheets in their groups also. They should then work on the study guide for this selection. All work in the book and the practice worksheets must be completed by the end of class today for classwork points. Test on this selection is Wednesday on Pearson Realize.
·         Study Island – New topic: Textual Evidence in Informational Texts – Students must have this done by the end of class on Wednesday.

Tuesday (01/15): Review/discuss work for “Words Do Not Pay.” Review games to prepare for test. Test is tomorrow.
·         Study Island – Individual practice on Textual Evidence in Informational Texts

Wednesday (01/16): Test on Pearson Realize – Words Do Not Pay. Students should complete test corrections when finished and begin working on Study Island once finished.
·         Study Island – Individual practice on textual evidence in informational texts.

Thursday (01/17): Read “Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence” together as a class and annotate first read of this selection. Students will then work in their groups to complete the work in the textbook and the practice worksheets/study guide. They must have all work completed by Wednesday (1/23). Test will be Thursday (1/24).
·         Study Island – Lesson on new topic (inferences and generalizations in informational texts) – group session on this topic

Friday (01/18): Work in small groups on “Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence.” Work is due Wednesday of next week.
·         Study Island – Individual practice on Inferences and generalizations in informational texts (due Tuesday)

·         Study Island – Individual practice on misplaced and dangling modifiers (due by end of the day today); students may also work on the study guide for the test this week if they finish Study Island topics

Tuesday (01/08): Review for test; review games; work on study guide
·         Study Island – New topic lesson and group session: Varied Sentence Structure

Wednesday (01/09): Test on Pearson Realize on “Ban the Ban” and “Soda’s a Problem But…” Students may use their textbook and study guide with the test.
·         Study Island – Individual practice on varied sentence structure

Thursday (01/10): Textbook – p. 306-312 (small group learning); students will work together in their small groups to read and analyze the speech, “Words Do Not Pay” by Chief Joseph. They will receive the study guide to work on together and must complete pages 306 – 312 and the practice worksheets for these sections by the end of class on Monday (1/14); test on Words Do Not Pay will be Wednesday (1/16).
·         Study Island – Individual practice on varied sentence structure

Friday (01/11): Work in small groups on items in textbook for the speech that we read yesterday and complete the practice worksheets for each section. Work on study guide to prepare for test.
