Monday – Teacher In-Service Day

Tuesday – School Closed due to inclement weather

Wednesday
  • Reading 8 (Odd): Students will view a documentary on the Holocaust and WWII as an introduction to the play, “The Diary of Ann Frank.”
  • Reading 7: Students will finish copying notes on poetry from the textbook (pages 574 – 575).
  • Practical Literature 12: Students will be introduced to the course and classroom rules/expectations. They will also be assigned their textbooks and we will discuss the readings and assignments for the first unit (Anglo-Saxon poetry and Beowulf).

Thursday

  •          Reading 8 (Even): Students will begin the unit on the play, “The Diary of Ann Frank” by discussing what they already know about WWII and the Holocaust as well as Ann Frank. They will complete a KWL chart on this topic and we will discuss the documentary they viewed during the last class period. Students will then read the background sections from the textbook on this topic and discuss big ideas and essential questions for the unit.



  •    Reading 7: Students will discuss the poetry notes together and provide examples for the terms discussed. Students will then read a poem with a partner and analyze it together based on the questions provided to them on a worksheet. We will discuss this poem together and students’ analyses.



  •         Practical Literature 12: Students will begin unit one by reading background information on Anglo-Saxon poetry and completing a note sheet. We will discuss these notes together and students will then view a PPT with additional notes and background information on this unit.

Friday
·        

  •  Reading 8 (Odd): Students will begin the unit on the play, “The Diary of Ann Frank” by discussing what they already know about WWII and the Holocaust as well as Ann Frank.   • Reading 7: Students will discuss the poem and their analyses of this poem together. They will continue with reading the first set of poems in the textbook and analyzing these together as a class. We will apply the poetry terms to each poem as elements are identified in each poem.
  • Practical Literature 12: Students will begin reading the first poem for unit one, “The Seafarer.” They will read together as a class and complete an analysis of the poem by using the note sheet provided. They will also complete discussion questions after reading the poem.

·         Reading 7 – Students will prepare for the midterm exam by discussing review questions from the review packet.

·         Practical Literature 10 – Students will review for the final exam by discussing review questions from packet.

Monday
·          Reading 8 (Even) – Students will read a short story together as a class (“Thank You Ma’am” p. 388). Students will respond to the critical thinking questions and the after you read questions on pages 392-393. Students will also begin working on the review packet for the midterm exam.

·         Reading 7 – Students will complete a review packet for the midterm exam today during class. This must be completed for tomorrow’s class.

·         Practical Literature 10 – Students will begin working on a review packet for the final exam.


Tuesday
·         Reading 8 (Odd) – Students will discuss the short story questions from “Thank You M’am.” We will discuss the theme of the story and other relevant details. Students will also begin working on the review packet for the midterm exam.

·         Reading 7 – As a class, we will review for the midterm exam by discussing items in the review packet together.

·         Practical Literature 10 – Students will continue working on the review packet for the final exam.


Wednesday
·         Reading 8 (Even) – Students will discuss the short story questions from “Thank You M’am.” We will discuss the theme of the story and other relevant details. Students will also continue working on the review packet for the midterm exam.

·         Reading 7 – Students will finish reviewing (if more time is needed from yesterday’s review session). Students will then continue reading act 2 of “A Christmas Carol” together.

·         Practical Literature 10 – As a class, we will discuss the review packet together and answer questions about the final exam.

Reading 8 (Odd) – As a class, we will review for the midterm exam. Students will finish the review packet during class today and we will discuss any questions that still remain about the exam.

·         Reading 7 – Students will continue reading act 2 of “A Christmas Carol” together as a class.

·         Practical Literature 10 – As a class, we will continue to review for the final exam by discussing the review packet together.

·         Reading 8 (Even) – As a class, we will review for the midterm exam. Students will finish the review packet during class today and we will discuss any questions that still remain about the exam.

·         Reading 7 – Students will finish reading “A Christmas Carol” and they will work on post-reading questions about the play. As a class, we will discuss the questions together and students will turn in their work.

·         Practical Literature 10 – Students will watch the film version of “Julius Caesar” to compare and contrast the written play to the film version. We will also discuss any final questions about the exam.

      Reading 8 (Odd) – Students will read a short story together as a class (“Thank You Ma’am” p. 388). Students will respond to the critical thinking questions and the after you read questions on pages 392-393.

·         Reading 7 – Students will continue reading “A Christmas Carol” in the textbook. We will finish reading Acts 1 and 2 and students will complete discussion questions for each act. They must also turn in their venn diagrams from the film if they have not done so already.

·         Practical Literature 10 – Students will continue reading Act 2 of “Julius Caesar” together as a class. Students will complete the study guide questions for Act 2 as we read. As a class, we will discuss these questions together.
