January 30, 2012 - February 3, 2012

Monday
·         Academic English 9 – Check vocabulary definitions; review definitions, worksheet, and sentences for vocab. lesson 10A. Students will also discuss the homework assignments from Friday (Shakespeare vocabulary sheets). Students will discuss the literary terms and other vocabulary terms for Romeo and Juliet together as a class.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will continue reading The Crucible together as a class with assigned parts. Students will also work together in pairs to complete study guide questions for Act 1.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will continue with the first module on teamwork. They will take notes on behavioral styles and discuss these as a class. Students will also assess where they fall on the scale of different communication styles. Students will then discuss and take notes on the four styles of behavior and determine which style best fits them. Students will read about the style they fall into and discuss what is important to learn about each style.

Tuesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will review the worksheet completed last week on Shakespeare’s life and career. As a class, we will discuss student responses to these questions. Students will also be assigned to parts in the play and read act 1, scene 1 together. Students will answer study guide questions as we read scene 1.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will continue to read Act 1 of The Crucible by following along with the audio book. Students will also work together in small groups to complete the study guide questions for Act 1. Students will then review for the quiz on Act 1 together as a class.

·         Y.E.S. -  Students will continue with the teamwork module and continue taking notes on behavioral styles from yesterday. We will finish session one and continue on to session two, which is team effectiveness. Students will work in groups to discuss what the difference is between a group and a team. As a class, we will discuss these together. Students will also take notes on team effectiveness and complete a team effectiveness activity as a class.

Wednesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will continue to read scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet together and students will work in groups to complete the study guide questions. Students will have a quiz on scene 1 on Friday.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will take a quiz on Act 1 of The Crucible. Students will also continue reading Act 2 of the play together as a class with assigned parts. Students will work on completing the study guide questions as they read together.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will take notes on conflict and will discuss how to resolve conflict within groups.
Thursday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a quiz on Vocabulary lesson 10A and then define the terms for lesson 10A. Students will also be given the worksheet to complete for lesson 10B and write sentences for this lesson on their own. When finished, students will work on finishing the study guide for scene 1 and review for the quiz on scene 1.

·         Practical Literature 11 –  Students will continue reading act 2 of the play while listening to the audio book version also. Students will also work together to discuss and respond to the study guide questions for act 2.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will continue working on “how to resolve conflict” within groups. Students will complete a group activity on resolving conflict and as a class, we will discuss the results of the activity together.
Friday
·          Academic English 9 – Students will take a quiz on scene 1 of R and J. Students will then continue reading R. and J. together as a class with assigned parts for scene 2. Students will work together in groups on the study guide questions for scene 2.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will continue reading Act 2 of The Crucible together. Students will be assigned parts to read. Students will work together to complete the study guide questions.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will complete an activity to determine the difference between groups and teams. Students will discuss their group’s responses to the activity and will take notes as a class.

January 23, 2012 - January 27, 2012

Monday
·         Academic English 9 – Check vocabulary definitions; review definitions, worksheet, and sentences for vocab. lesson 9B. Students will also begin watching a video on Shakespeare’s life and works. Students will take notes to compare/contrast during the video.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Introduction to “The Crucible” and the Salem Witch Trials – Students will view the History Channel’s video on the Salem Witch Trials and complete a note taking sheet while viewing the video.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will begin writing a rough draft of an essay on their dream job. When finished writing the rough draft, students will proof read and peer edit their essays.

Tuesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will finish watching the video on Shakespeare and they will complete the video questions to use as notes. When finished, we will discuss the video questions together and compare/contrast Shakespeare’s life and times to modern society to point out similarities and differences.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will continue to watch a video on the Salem Witch Trials and discuss the questions together as a class. Students will then begin reading Act 1 of The Crucible together. Students will be assigned parts to read and they will also be given the study guide for Act 1 to complete as we read. Students will work together on the study guide questions.

·         Y.E.S. - Period three: Students will listen to a speaker from Lincoln Technical Institute speak about “Life after high school.”Period six: Students will work on typing the final copy of the 5 paragraph essay on their “dream job.”

Wednesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will begin reading Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet. Students will be assigned parts to read and will complete the study guide questions for Act 1, scene 1 after reading scene 1 together.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Define literary devices presented in The Crucible and find examples of each element within the play as students read. Students will continue to read Act 1 of the play and work together in small groups to complete study guide questions.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will be placed into groups to discuss the list of businesses offered for tours this semester. Students will discuss their top picks and as a class, we will narrow the list to our top two picks as a class. Students will also begin the first module for the course, which is teamwork. Students will take notes on “communication skills needed for teamwork” and they will also discuss key points during class. Students will then complete a team activity on self esteem.
Thursday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a quiz on Vocabulary lesson 9B and then define the terms for lesson 10A. Students will also be given the worksheet to complete for lesson 10A and write sentences for this lesson on their own. When finished, students will define vocabulary terms for Romeo and Juliet and discuss Shakespearean terms.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Discuss the connection to McCarthyism during the 1950s and the parallels between the play and the events of the Red Scare. Students will complete a web quest on McCarthyism to answer questions about the events of the period together in small groups.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will continue with the first module on teamwork. They will take notes on behavioral styles and discuss these as a class. ·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Students will play Scattergories together as a class using the Promethean Board. Students will earn bonus points if they use any of the vocabulary terms from the semester.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - No Class

Wednesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will finish watching the video on Shakespeare and they will complete the video questions to use as notes. When finished, we will discuss the video questions together and compare/contrast Shakespeare’s life and times to modern society to point out similarities and differences.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Students will complete lesson 18 in the PSSA book on analyzing literary structures.

·         Practical Literature 11 – New Students arrive today: Students will be introduced to the course and the classroom/school rules, expectations, and procedures.

·         Y.E.S. - 12 - Students will be introduced to the course and the classroom rules, expectations, and procedures. As a class, we will discuss the required documents for certification, etc. and students will receive the forms they need to complete for Monday.

·         Academic English 9 – Check vocabulary definitions; review definitions, worksheet, and sentences for vocab. lesson 8B. As a class, we will also continue with grammar by discussing the notes on direct and indirect objects. Students will also complete practice exercises on these in class.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will review chapter 4 in the grammar book by completing review exercises on the different types of clauses. As a class, we will begin to discuss these together in class when students finish.

Prac. Lit: Students will complete the study guide for chapters three and four of “Of Mice and Men.” As a class, we will discuss these study guides together in preparation for a quiz on chapters 3 and 4.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Students will complete lesson 17 in chapter 3 of the PSSA book on analyzing plot.

Wednesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will review the exercises from yesterday and discuss practice exercises together as a class. Students will also take notes on the last grammar section for the chapter (kinds of sentences). Students will work with a partner to complete practice exercises on kinds of sentences. Students will also be given the review packet to work on for Friday.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will continue reviewing the chapter on clauses by discussing the review sheets completed yesterday on the different types of clauses. Students will also be given a review packet for the final exam. The packet is due on Friday.

Prac. Lit: Students will take a quiz on chapters 3 and 4 of “Of Mice and Men.” Students will then complete the study guide for chapter 5 of the novel and discuss this as a class. Students will also be given the review packet for the final exam to complete for Friday.
