November 21, 2011 - November 25, 2011

Monday
·         Academic English 9 – Check vocabulary definitions; review definitions, worksheet, and sentences for vocab. lesson 6B. As a class, we will also review “The Most Dangerous Game” in preparation for the test tomorrow.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac Eng: Review vocabulary terms for the test on list #4, which will be tomorrow. Students will play a review game to review vocabulary terms.

Prac Lit: Students will begin reading Act 4 of Hamlet and they will also view scenes from Act 4 in the film version.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Students will be introduced to a writing assignment where they will be analyzing the movie, “The Dead Poets Society.” Students will begin viewing the movie and taking notes on the six elements of a movie discussed during class.

Tuesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a test on “The Most Dangerous Game.” When students are finished, they will review their notes on Edgar Allen Poe and discuss the video that they watched on Friday about Poe. Students will also complete a worksheet on Poe’s biographical information based on the video and a note sheet that students were given. Students will also complete a plot diagram and a sheet on vocabulary terms from the story that they will read, “The Cask of Amontillado.”

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will take a test on vocabulary terms in list#4. When finished, students will work on typing their rough draft of the research paper on laptops.

Prac. Lit: Continue reading Act 4 of Hamlet together as a class. Students will also complete study guide questions together in groups on Act 4.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - No Class

Wednesday
·         Academic English 9 – Vocabulary Quiz 6B. Students will also review the vocabulary worksheet from yesterday and the worksheet on Poe’s bio. If time permits, students will begin reading “The Cask of Amontillado” in the literature book.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will work on writing their rough draft of the research paper on laptops using their note cards.

Prac. Lit: Students will continue with Act 4 of Hamlet by viewing scenes from the play in the film version.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Students will analyze a movie by taking notes while viewing the film in order to write a movie review essay.

·         Academic English 9 – Check vocabulary definitions; review definitions, worksheet, and sentences for vocab. lesson 6A. Students will also continue reading “The Most Dangerous Game” together as a class and work on answering questions as they read.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac Eng: Define four new vocabulary terms for list #4 on vocabulary square sheets and write synonyms, antonyms, and sentences for each new word. Students will then continue to research and gather information on their projects. Students will work on creating note cards for the research paper.

Prac Lit: Students will continue reading Act 3 of Hamlet and they will watch scenes from Act 3 in the film version of the play while completing study guide questions.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - No Class

Tuesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will finish reading the short story from last week (if necessary) and discuss the study guide questions for “The Most Dangerous Game” and complete a critical reading sheet on the story also in small groups.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Define four new vocabulary terms for list #4 on vocabulary square sheets and write synonyms, antonyms, and sentences for each new word. Students will also continue working on note cards for research project. Note cards are due on Thursday.

Prac. Lit: Continue reading Act 3 of Hamlet together as a class. Students will listen to an audio version of the play while following along in the book and view scenes from Act 3 in the film version. Students will also work on study guide questions in groups.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Students will complete lesson 15 of chapter 3 in the PSSA book (analyze characterization).

Wednesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will complete a short story plot diagram based on “The Most Dangerous Game” and discuss the elements of plot together. Students will also discuss the critical reading sheet and review suspense and how it is used within the story.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Review vocabulary terms by completing review sheets for list #4. Students will also use research materials to create note cards for their topics.

Prac. Lit: Students will finish Act 3 of Hamlet and begin to discuss the study guide questions for Act 3.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - No Class

Thursday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a quiz on Vocabulary lesson 6A and then define the terms for lesson 6B. Students will also be given the worksheet to complete for lesson 6B and write sentences for this lesson on their own. Students will then review for a test on “The Most Dangerous Game.”

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will continue working on the review sheets for list #4 vocabulary terms. Note cards will be checked today and students will review in-text citations so they can begin writing the rough draft.

Prac. Lit: Students will continue to review Act 3 by discussing the study guide questions together as a class.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Students will continue working on lesson 15 of chapter 3 in the PSSA book (analyze characterization).

Friday
·          Academic English 9 – Test on the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game.” After the test, students will view a video on Edgar Allen Poe and his stories. Students will take notes while viewing the video.

Students will also continue reading “The Most Dangerous Game” together as a class and work on answering questions as they read.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac Eng: Define four new vocabulary terms for list #4 on vocabulary square sheets and write synonyms, antonyms, and sentences for each new word. Students will then take a grammar test on chapter 3 (phrases). After the test, students will be introduced to the research project they will complete and will begin discussing the project.

Prac Lit: Students will continue reading Act 2 of Hamlet and will view scenes from Act 2 in the film version. Students will also complete questions on the study guide for Act 2.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - No Class

Tuesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a test on pronouns. After the test, students will continue reading the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” and they will answer discussion questions along with the story.

Students will also begin research on their project on computers. They must find at least two sources and begin note cards.

·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a quiz on Vocabulary lesson 5B and then define the terms for lesson 6A. Students will also be given the worksheet to complete for lesson 6A and write sentences for this lesson on their own. Students will then finish reading the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” and will work on completing the study guide questions as they read.
