Monday
·         Academic English 9 – Check vocabulary definitions; review definitions, worksheet, and sentences for vocab. lesson 5A. Group presentations on pronouns.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac Eng: Students will take a vocabulary test on terms for list #3. They will also turn in vocab. square sheets and vocab. review sheets for list #3. Students will then review infinitives and infinitive phrases together by discussing responses to the worksheets on each.

Prac Lit: Review Act 1 of Hamlet in preparation for quiz on Act 1. Students will discuss study guide questions and review for the quiz. Students will also define literary terms for the play and identify examples from Act 1.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Students will work on a practice test on chapter one concepts independently from the PSSA book.
Tuesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will continue working in jigsaw groups to take notes on pronouns and present their pronoun to the rest of the class. Students will receive a worksheet on each pronoun type for independent practice also.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will work together in small groups to identify and define appositives and appositive phrases. As a class, we will discuss appositives and complete practice exercises together. Students will complete worksheets on these for independent practice.

Prac. Lit: Students will take a quiz on Act 1 of Hamlet. Students will then begin reading Act 2, scene 1 of Hamlet together while completing study guide questions for Act 2.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - No Class
Wednesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will finish presenting their pronouns in groups to the class and will identify each pronoun type on worksheets for each type also. Students will then begin reading a short story, “The Most Dangerous Game.” Students will answer study guide questions as they read the short story.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will review appositives and appositive phrases by discussing the worksheets from yesterday. Students will then be assigned to an activity for reviewing phrases from chapter 3 of grammar. Each student will be assigned to a different review activity for different types of phrases.

Prac. Lit: Students will define literary terms presented in Hamlet, such as soliloquy and aside. Students will then identify these elements as we read Act 2 of Hamlet together as a class.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Students will complete lesson 14 from chapter 3 in the PSSA book on strategies and skills for reading narratives for appreciation.
Thursday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a quiz on Vocabulary lesson 5A and then define the terms for lesson 5B. Students will also be given the worksheet to complete for lesson 5B and write sentences for this lesson on their own. Students will then continue reading the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” and will work on completing the study guide questions as they read.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will discuss the review activities completed yesterday as a class. Students will then complete review worksheets for each type of phrase in preparation for a test on chapter 3 (phrases).

Prac. Lit: Read Act 2 of Hamlet and analyze by discussing study guide questions. Discuss visual representation of Hamlet in the film version by watching scenes that were read.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - No Class
Friday
·          Academic English 9 – Students will finish reading, “The Most Dangerous Game,” and will discuss elements of plot while analyzing the plot of the story. As a class, we will review the study guide questions together by discussing student responses. Students will complete a critical reading sheet on the story when finished reading.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will work on completing the review sheets for each type of phrase. As a class, we will discuss responses to these review sheets in preparation for a test on phrases next week.

Prac. Lit: Students will continue reading Act 2 of Hamlet together and we will analyze the Act by discussing the study guide questions as we read. Students will watch the film version of the play and analyze the techniques used in the film.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Students will complete lesson 15 of chapter 3 in the PSSA book (analyze characterization).

·         Academic English 9 – Check vocabulary definitions; review definitions, worksheet, and sentences for vocab. lesson 4B. Review Night for test on Wednesday (discuss review packet).

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac Eng: Define new vocabulary words for list #3 on vocabulary square sheets. Students will then review gerunds and gerund phrases by discussing the work completed from last week. Students will also differentiate between participles and gerunds by reviewing the worksheet from last week and by playing a round of Scattergories using participles and gerunds.

Prac Lit: Students will analyze Act 1, scene 1 of Hamlet by discussing the study guide questions in groups. Students will then read scene 2 of Act 1 together with assigned parts.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - No class
Tuesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will finish reviewing for the test on Night by discussing the review packet. Test is tomorrow. Students will also view a scene from “The Pianist” to compare/contrast to the events in Night.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will begin to work on review sheets for vocab. list #3. Students will examine infinitives and infinitive phrases within sentences and explain their purpose and function. Students will take notes on their purpose and function and work together in groups to identify infinitives and infinitive phrases within sentences.

Prac. Lit: Students will read Hamlet, Act 2, together as a class with assigned parts. Students will discuss study guide questions to analyze what they read. Students will then view the film version of what they have read so far in the play.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Students will work on lesson 6 in the PSSA book to evaluate text organization and content to determine author’s purpose.
Wednesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a test on Night. Jigsaw activity - Students will then work in small groups to read about pronouns. Students will take notes on each type in order to present to the rest of the class.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will review infinitives and infinitive phrases by discussing the worksheets completed yesterday in class. Students will also review vocabulary words from list 3 by discussing responses to review worksheets from yesterday. Vocab. quiz will be on Friday.

Students will then be assigned to an activity for reviewing phrases from chapter 3 of grammar. Each student will be assigned to a different review activity for different types of phrases.

Prac. Lit: Students will continue reading Act 2 of Hamlet together and we will analyze the Act by discussing the study guide questions as we read. Students will watch the film version of the play and analyze the techniques used in the film.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac Eng: Define new vocabulary words for list #3 on vocabulary square sheets. Students will explore and examine the absolute phrase and identify these within sentences together in class as well as independently. Students will also define gerunds and gerund phrases. They will identify these in sentences and identify their functions in sentences. Students will then differentiate between participial phrases and gerund phrases.

Prac Lit: Students will view a video on William Shakespeare that discusses his life and writings. Students will take notes as they watch the video by answering questions.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Students will work on lesson 6 in the PSSA book to evaluate text organization and content to determine author’s purpose.

Tuesday
·         Academic English 9 – Students will discuss/analyze chapter 9 of Night and turn in study guides. Students will then view scenes from the movie,“The Pianist,” to compare and contrast using a Venn Diagram graphic organizer. Students will also be given a review sheet to prepare for the test on Friday. Students will complete the review sheet for tomorrow for homework.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Define new vocabulary words for list #3 on vocab. square sheets. Students will also review worksheets completed on gerunds and gerund phrases from yesterday. Notes on infinitives and identify infinitives in sentences as a class.

Prac. Lit: Review questions from the video from yesterday on Shakespeare. Students will then begin to read the introduction to Hamlet while answering questions to identify key information about the play and Shakespeare’s time.

Wednesday
·         Academic English 9 – *Periods 1 and 2 will go to the library for first half of class period today to type Twitter project and print final copy.
      Students will discuss responses on their review sheets and discuss the test on Night that will be on Tuesday next week. Students will then continue to watch scenes from “The Pianist” and to compare/contrast these with the events read in Night.

·         Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Define new vocabulary words for list #3 on vocab. square sheets. Students will practice identifying infinitives and infinitive phrases by completing exercises together and independently. As a class, we will discuss these exercises together. Prac. Lit: Students will watch scenes from the film version of Hamlet (Act 1).

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Discuss lesson 7 together as a class to determine competency. Students will also complete the Independent Practice Test in the PSSA book at the end of Chapter 1.

Students will also begin chapter 3 of grammar (Phrases). Students will define and identify prepositional phrases and complete practice exercises for this section.

Prac Lit: Continue reading Act 3 of The Crucible and analyze Act 3 by completing study guide questions.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Finish lesson two and discuss the lesson together. Students will also begin working on lesson three in the book (essential and non-essential information).

As a class, we will also read chapter five of Night together and students will demonstrate comprehension and analysis skills by completing the study guide questions as we read the chapter.
