Monday (9/24): “The Medicine Bag” – Test is Thursday this week. Closure quiz today on symbolism. Today, we will work on reviewing the concept vocab. Words and word study (animal words) as well as practice active and passive voice. We will discuss these two worksheets tomorrow.
·         Study Island – Verbs (lesson and group session on verbs)

Tuesday (9/25): “The Medicine Bag” – review/discuss vocabulary and active and passive voice. Students will also view the video, “Apache Girl’s Rite of Passage.” We will answer the comprehension questions and analyze the media questions that compare the video to the story, “The Medicine Bag.”
·         Study Island – Finish group session on verbs and begin independent practice on verbs. Best score for verbs is due by the end of the day on Friday.

Wednesday (9/26): “The Medicine Bag” – Finish work on the documentary video (re-watch a second time). Work on study guide for the test tomorrow, play quizlet to review vocabulary words for the test.
·         Study Island – Independent practice: verbs (WIN time: students should work on the topics they struggled with the most so far, once they are finished with verbs)

Thursday (9/27): “The Medicine Bag” – Test today. Students may use their textbook and study guide. After the test, students should work on Study Island.
·         Study Island – Independent practice: Verbs - high score due by end of the day Friday. (WIN time)

Friday (9/28): Begin TDA for “The Medicine Bag.” Students will analyze the prompt and discuss how it should be approached. We will look at how to use the bug graphic organizer to organize the TDA response.

Monday (9/17): “The Medicine Bag” – Connect and engage page of annotation station packet. Comprehension questions on page 21. Comprehension closure quiz. Close read the text (close reads in the margins of the text) – complete and discuss.  
·         Study Island – Topic 1 due today: verbals. Begin topic 2 – active and passive voice (notes/lesson and then group session on active and passive voice).

Tuesday (9/18): “The Medicine Bag” – Analyze the text questions (complete and discuss). Analyze the text closure quiz.
·         Study Island – Independent practice on active and passive voice– high score for this topic is due by Wednesday.

Wednesday (9/19): “The Medicine Bag” – Craft and structure: symbols. Closure quiz on symbols.
·         Study Island – Lesson on new topic: Verbs - group practice session

·         Study Island – Topic 1 lesson/discussion/notes: Language – Verbals (gerunds, participles, participial phrases, infinitives) and group session.

Monday (9/3): No School – Labor Day
Tuesday (9/4): Introduce bell ringers (reading comprehension and daily editing). Practice bell ringers for each type and discuss. Hand out textbook and connection letter to take home for unit one. Essential question for unit one and introduction, unit goals and academic vocabulary (vocab. Squares) p. 2-5 in textbook. Closure: vocabulary sentences. *Note: Students must finish the Pearson beginning of the year test or the Study Island benchmark test online if they are not finished. They should complete these either in Academic Prep or at home and fill in their data sheet when finished.
Wednesday (9/5): Launch text – p. 6-9. Read launch text (nonfiction narrative). Highlight parts of plot, descriptive details, and other important elements. (Vocab. Network, summary, and quickwrite – discuss). Launch activity.  – P. 10-11: Whole class learning overview (video – whole class learning strategies). Hand out study guide for first text selection. Concept Vocabulary for “The Medicine Bag.” (Vocab. Squares) Closure: whole class learning strategies.
