4/28/14 – 5/2/14

Monday
  • Reading 8 (Odd): Students will read two poems in the textbook on pages 775 – 778. They will complete the critical thinking questions for each poem and #1 – 3 on page 779.

  • Reading 7: Students will discuss chapters 36 – 38 of “Holes” together. As a class, we will then read chapters 39 – 42 together and students will complete study questions for these chapters as well.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will finish reading Act 1 of “Macbeth” together. Students will complete study guide questions for this Act and we will discuss these as a class together.

Tuesday
  • Reading 8 (Even): PSSA Science testing

  • Reading 7: Students will turn in their post cards today if they have not already turned them in. Students will also review questions for chapters 39 – 42 of the novel and read chapters 43 – 45. Students will complete questions for these chapters.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will begin reading Act 2 of “Macbeth.” Students will complete study guide questions for this Act and we will discuss these as a class together.

Wednesday
  • Reading 8 (Odd): As a class, we will discuss the last two poems (Frost and Whitman) that students read last class period. We will discuss student responses to the questions for each poem. Students will then begin a writing assignment and working on a review packet for poetry. The poetry test will be on Friday.

  • Reading 7: Students will discuss the last set of questions (chapters 43 – 45). We will then read chapters 46 – 48 together in class. Students will respond to questions for these chapters as well.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will continue reading Act 2 of “Macbeth.” Students will also complete study guide questions for this Act and we will discuss these together.

Thursday
  • Reading 8 (Even): As a class, we will discuss the last two poems (Frost and Whitman) that students read last class period. We will discuss student responses to the questions for each poem. Students will then begin a writing assignment and working on a review packet for poetry. The poetry test will be on Monday.

  • Reading 7: Students will discuss questions for chapters 46 – 48. Students will then read chapters 49 – 50 and complete the questions for these chapters also. When finished, we will discuss these questions together.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will continue reading Act 2 of “Macbeth.” Students will also complete study guide questions for this Act and we will discuss these together.

Friday
  • Reading 8 (Odd): As a class, we will discuss any questions about the review packet and briefly go over responses. Students will take a test on poetry today.

  • Reading 7: Students will begin watching the movie, “Holes.” As they watch, they will complete a Venn Diagram sheet to compare/contrast the book to the movie.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will continue reading Act 2 of “Macbeth.” Students will also complete study guide questions for this Act and we will discuss these together.

4/14/14 – 4/18/14

Monday
  • Reading 8 (Even): Students will view the end of the movie, “The Diary of Anne Frank.” They will also complete the Venn Diagram to compare/contrast the movie and written play.

  •  Reading 7: Students will complete their setting and character representations by coloring in their pictures today in class. Students should turn these in today by the end of class. When finished, students will complete a writing assignment related to the novel.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will finish their “coat of arms” project today and turn them in.

Tuesday
  • Reading 8 (Odd): Students will view the end of the movie, “The Diary of Anne Frank.” They will also complete the Venn Diagram to compare/contrast the movie and written play.

  • Reading 7: Students will turn in the writing assignment for Holes from yesterday. Students will then continue reading the next set of chapters in class together. They will complete study guide questions for these chapters as well.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will begin “Macbeth.” They will take notes on Shakespeare and read an introductory section on the play. We will discuss this as a class.
Wednesday
  • Reading 8 (Even): As a class, we will discuss the Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the movie version to the written play. We will discuss student responses on the board together. As a class, we will discuss the poetry notes that students took down in their notebooks.

  •  Reading 7: Students will complete a second writing activity for Holes today during class.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will begin reading the play, “Macbeth.” They will complete a study guide as they read as well.
Thursday
  • Reading 8 (Odd): As a class, we will discuss the Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the movie version to the written play. We will discuss student responses on the board together. As a class, we will discuss the poetry notes that students took down in their notebooks.

  • Reading 7: Students will continue reading “Holes” together as a class. We will read the next set of chapters together and students will complete the study guide questions as well.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will continue reading “Macbeth” together as a class. We will discuss study guide questions together as well.

Monday
  • Reading 8 (Even): As a class, we will discuss the PSSA lesson on poetry from the last class. We will go over student responses to questions within the packet and students will turn in their lesson packets today. If any time remains, students will begin watching the movie version of “The Diary of Anne Frank.”

  •  Reading 7: Students will discuss the PSSA practice lesson 11 (Main Idea and Supporting Details).

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will continue working on their movie posters or comic strips for Beowulf.

Tuesday (Odd) – PSSA testing for 7th and 8th grade students (Math and Reading Tests)
  • Practical Literature 12: Students will finish movie posters and comic strips for Beowulf.

Wednesday (Even) - PSSA testing for 7th and 8th grade students (Math and Reading Tests)
  • Practical Literature 12: Students will begin notes on the next unit (Arthurian Legend).

Thursday (Odd) - PSSA testing for 7th and 8th grade students (Math and Reading Tests)
  • Practical Literature 12: Students will begin reading the next selection, “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.” They will complete study guide questions as well.

Friday

  • Reading 8 (Even): Students will watch parts of the movie version of “The Diary of Anne Frank.”




  • Reading 7: Students will begin the next unit on the novel, “Holes.”

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will read “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” together as a class. Students will complete study guide questions as they read.
