Monday
• Academic English 9 – Students will be introduced to the course by reviewing the course syllabus. Students and T will also discuss classroom procedures, rules, and expectations. T and students will discuss goals for the school year and how we will work toward achieving these goals. Assign grammar textbooks.

• Practical English/Literature 11 – Students will be introduced to the course by reading and discussing the course syllabus. Students will review/discuss the classroom rules, notebook requirements, and goals for the year/course.

• PSSA Reading 11/12 – No class
Tuesday
• Academic English 9 – Review some of the rules/procedures/expectations from yesterday during today’s bell ringer. Students will then answer questions about their learning and learning preferences in a four corners activity. Students will also brainstorm together and discuss what they already know about the Holocaust and WWII. They will view a short clip of images related to the Holocaust to discuss.

Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will complete the student reader survey and a survey on literary devices. Grammar pre-test to assess students' knowledge on phrases/clauses/sentence structure.

• Prac. Lit: View a timeline and read about the history of early American culture/traditions. Students will then preview the text and discuss narratives and their purpose. Students will then read "The General History of Virginia" while taking notes on key points to compare to the next reading, "Of Plymouth Plantation."

PSSA Reading 11/12 - Discuss rules/expectations and procedures for the classroom. Review course outline.
Wednesday
• Academic English 9 – Assign Night books to students. Students will take a grammar pre-test to see what they already know about the parts of speech. Students will then read the preface and foreward of Night and they will discuss what they think the significance of the title is. Students and T will discuss the study guide vocabulary and literary terms that will be explored throughout the book.

Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Discuss results of pre-test with students and the goals for the course. Vocabulary sheet #1. Students will complete definitions and complete vocab. squares on four words each day. We will begin with the first four words today and review the definitions, etc. together. Students will also begin grammar practice by distinguishing between complete
sentences and sentence fragments.

• Prac. Lit: Students will review the questions on the narrative they read yesterday and finish questions if necessary. Students will then read the next story, "Of Plymouth Plantation" writing down notes comparing it to the first narrative. Students will discuss why these two are different and the importance of context. Students will also complete the review and assess section on page 85.

• PSSA Reading 11/12 – No class
Thursday
• Academic English 9 – Students will be introduced to vocabulary list #1. T will explain the assignment (definitions and sentences) and students will be given time to work on list 1. Vocabulary lesson 1 is due on Tuesday.

Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will complete grammar practice by completing the first section of "parts of the entence." We will examine examples together and analyze sentences to identify the subject/predicate (simple/complete and compound subjects and predicates).

• Prac. Lit: Students will review their notes on the two stories and finish questions if necessary. We will discuss the questions and students will use a venn diagram to compare/contrast the two stories using their notes. Students will then begin writing a one page comparison of the two narratives/authors examining the points discussed earlier.

Friday
• Academic English 9 – Notebooks due in class today. Students will review the terms for chapter one of Night and begin reading chapter one together. Students will work together in small groups to complete study guide questions.

Practical English/Literature 11 – Prac. Eng: Students will take notes on direct object, indirect object, object complement, and subject complement. Students will also work together to analyze sentences and identify these parts of the sentence. We will discuss the importance of placement of sentence parts when writing and view examples to reinforce this importance.

• Prac. Lit: Students will continue writing their comparisons on the two stories/authors. Students will proofread and revise their work when drafts are finished.
