8th Grade English (Periods 1, 2, 3, 5B, 6, 7, 8):
Monday (01/23): A.M. periods – students will discuss/review the summary and quick-write activity from Friday. Students will receive their nonfiction narratives back and we will discuss results. P.M. periods will attend the reward event for the end of the marking period.
Tuesday (01/24): Students will discuss/review the summary and quick-write activity from Friday. This will be checked for a grade. Students will receive their nonfiction narratives back and we will discuss results. Students will also practice using the academic vocabulary terms in sentences of their own. We will discuss examples together in class. Students will then begin the next text, “Barrington Irving, Pilot and Educator.” Students will rank the concept vocabulary terms and complete a practice worksheet with the concept vocabulary terms. Students will also complete a first read of the text.
Wednesday (01/25): We will review the first read notes that students made with the text from yesterday, and students will then complete the comprehension check questions. We will view the video that connects with this text and discuss it as well as responses for the comprehension check questions.
Thursday (01/26): Students will perform a close read of the text, marking up the text with their annotations. They will also complete the analyze the text section. We will discuss and view examples of the close read, and discuss the analysis questions together.
Friday (01/27): Students will examine page 271 together in the textbook. Students will read the analyze craft and structure section and complete a practice worksheet on these items. Students will also read and complete the practice section on page 271.
