3/3/14 – 3/7/14

Monday
  • Reading 8 (Even): Students will finish reading Act 1 of Anne Frank. They will also work on the study guide questions and a worksheet on character motivations.
  • Reading 7: Students will read and discuss a magazine article titled, “The Rhythms of Rap.” We will discuss how this relates to the poems that we’ve read so far in the unit. Students will then complete an activity focusing on connotation and denotation (p. 708 – 709) in the textbook.
  • Practical Literature 12: Students will finish notes on “Beowulf.” We will discuss these together and begin reading “Beowulf” together as a class.

Tuesday
  • Reading 8 (Odd): Students will continue reading Anne Frank. They will also work on the study guide questions. We will discuss Act 1 questions together.
  • Reading 7: Students will discuss the two poems from yesterday that they read in the textbook. We will discuss the questions for each of these poems together. Students will then read two poems in the textbook: “The Highwayman” and “How I learned English.”
  •  Practical Literature 12: Students will read “Beowulf” while using talking to text method in order to take notes while reading.

Wednesday
  • Reading 8 (Even): Students will discuss Act 1 questions together. Students will then continue reading Act 2 of the play together.
  • Reading 7: As a class, we will re-read the poems from yesterday and discuss them together. Students will provide their responses to the questions in the textbook. Students will then read another set of poems from the textbook with a partner and complete critical thinking questions for these poems.
  • Practical Literature 12: Students will read “Beowulf” while using talking to text method in order to take notes while reading.


 Thursday


  •  Reading 8 (Odd): Students will continue reading Anne Frank together. They will also work on the study guide with partners.


  • Reading 7: As a class, we will discuss the three poems that students read for today. We will discuss student responses to the questions in the book on these poems. Students will then read the next set of three poems by Dickinson, Poe, and Patterson. Students will respond to questions based on all three of these poems.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will read “Beowulf” while using talking to text method in order to take notes while reading.

Friday

  •  Reading 8 (Even): Students will continue reading Anne Frank together. They will also work on the study guide with partners.



  •  Reading 7: As a class, we will discuss the three poems from yesterday’s class together. Students will then begin working on the next set of poems by Lewis Carroll, Frost, and Brooks.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will read “Beowulf” while using talking to text method in order to take notes while reading.
