Monday


  • Reading 8 (Odd): Students will copy down notes from the textbook on poetry (p. 640 – 643). When finished, if time permits, students will view some of the movie version of “Anne Frank.” Students who still need to take the test on “Anne Frank” will also do so today.

  •  Reading 7: Students will discuss the PSSA practice lesson (A String of Sausages). Students will then work on completing Lesson 12 on summarizing.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will watch the movie version of “Beowulf” and compare/contrast it to the written poem.

Tuesday
  • Reading 8 (Even): Students will copy down notes from the textbook on poetry (p. 640 – 643). When finished, if time permits, students will view some of the movie version of “Anne Frank.” Students who still need to take the test on “Anne Frank” will also do so today.
  • Reading 7: As a class, we will discuss the summarizing lesson from yesterday. Students will then complete a PSSA lesson on “Understanding tone and viewpoint in nonfiction.”
  •  Practical Literature 12: Students will complete a Venn Diagram to compare/contrast the movie to the written version. Students will review for the test on Beowulf.

Wednesday
  • Reading 8 (Odd): Students will discuss the PSSA lesson from last week (The Countess and the Impossible). They will turn in these packets today also. We will also discuss the poetry notes today. Students will then work on completing a PSSA lesson on poetry.
  • Reading 7: Students will discuss the PSSA lesson from yesterday on nonfiction. They will then complete a PSSA lesson on analyzing figurative language.
  • Practical Literature 12: Students will take a test on Beowulf today.





Thursday


  • Reading 8 (Even): Students will discuss the PSSA lesson from last week (The Countess and the Impossible). They will turn in these packets today also. We will also discuss the poetry notes today. Students will then work on completing a PSSA lesson on poetry.


  • Reading 7: Students will discuss the PSSA practice lesson on analyzing figurative language. We will examine the open-ended prompt on the board using a RACERS sheet. Students will then complete a PSSA lesson on identifying main ideas and supporting details.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will begin the next unit on “Arthurian Legends” by completing a note sheet using information from the textbook.

Friday

  • Reading 8 (Even): Students will discuss the PSSA lesson on poetry together as a class. When finished, students will watch parts of the movie version of “The Diary of Anne Frank.”



  • Reading 7: As a class, we will discuss the PSSA lesson from yesterday on identifying main ideas and supporting details. Students will then read their AR books silently for the remainder of class.

  • Practical Literature 12: Students will begin reading “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” together as a class. Students will complete study guide questions as they read.
