November 28, 2016 - December 2, 2016

11/28/16 – 12/02/16
8th Grade English (Periods 1, 2, 3, 5B, 6, 7, 8):

Monday (11/28): No School
Tuesday (11/29): Students will write a nonfiction narrative addressing the following prompt: “What event changed your understanding of yourself, or that of someone you know?” Students will write for the entire period to complete the task.
Wednesday (11/30): Students will finish the writing task from yesterday, if needed. Students will then complete and discuss the comprehension check questions on page 30 in the textbook. Students will also work in small groups on page 31 (analyze the media questions and media vocabulary).
Thursday (12/01): Students will receive their nonfiction narratives back along with a list of nonfiction elements on a separate sheet. They will read their own essay, highlighting the elements they have included. They must then rank each element (1 through 6), with 1 being the best and 6 the worst. Students have now identified their areas of strength and need with writing a nonfiction narrative. Students will then be placed into groups based on their rankings (area of need that was identified). If time permits, we will discuss the roles they will be expected to assign within their groups for tomorrow’s task.
Friday (12/02): Students will work in learning center groups to practice and improve upon their area of need related to the elements of a nonfiction narrative.
