Monday
  • Academic English 8 – Examine and discuss PSSA sample responses to open-ended questions. Students will score each response and tell why they gave that score. (Essential Question: How do we effectively respond to open-ended questions?)

  • Academic English 7 – Students will discuss active and passive voice verbs as well as practice using these in writing. (Essential Question: How do verbs function within a sentence to help us effectively communicate and how do we know when to correctly use different types of verbs?)


  • Honors English 7 – Students will discuss active and passive voice verbs as well as practice using these in writing. (Essential Question: How do verbs function within a sentence to help us effectively communicate and how do we know when to correctly use different types of verbs?)


  • Practical Literature 11 – Project Presentations continue today. All other students will take notes on the literary devices begin presented. (Essential Question: What are the various literary devices that authors use in their writing to enhance literature and how do these devices add to the overall meaning of a piece of literature?)

  • Honors Reading 7 – Poetry collection 7 – Students will work in groups on completing collection 7. They will analyze each poem in the packet and answer questions. Poetry test will be on Friday (4/10). (Essential Question: What are the elements of poetry and how do these elements enhance poems and add to their overall meaning?)

Tuesday
  • Academic English 8 – Discuss how open-ended responses were scored and why students gave that score. When finished, students will read the short story, “The Dinner Party” and use context clues to define unfamiliar words within the story. (Essential Question: How do we effectively respond to open-ended questions and how do we use context clues to determine meanings of unfamiliar terms?)

  • Academic English 7 – Finish section on active and passive voice and discuss inverted and interrupted order of subjects/verbs within sentences. Students will complete practice exercises. Begin section on commonly confused verbs. (Essential Question: How do verbs function within a sentence to help us effectively communicate and how do we know when to correctly use different types of verbs?)

  • Honors Reading 7 – Discuss poetry collection 7 together and introduce the poem writing assignment. Poems are due on April 17th. (Essential Question: What are the elements of poetry and how do these elements enhance poems and add to their overall meaning?)

Wednesday
  • Academic English 8 – Students will continue working on “The Dinner Party” activities. They will finish context clues and double entry journal as well as work on summarizing the story via a news story set up. (Essential Question: How do reading and writing strategies help us analyze and comprehend text?)

  • Academic English 7 – Finish sections on commonly confused verbs and complete practice exercises. Check vocabulary packet #15 and review. Quiz on unit 15 is Thursday. (Essential Question: How do verbs function within a sentence to help us effectively communicate and how do we know when to correctly use different types of verbs?)

We will examine sample responses to the prompt and discuss how they are scored, etc. (Essential Question: What test taking strategies can we use on the Keystone Lit. exam and how do these strategies help to analyze a passage?)


  • Honors Reading 7 – Finish discussing poetry collection 7 and turn in work. Students will then read a poem from the book and analyze in small groups. We will discuss as a class and begin to review for the test, which will be on Friday. (Essential Question: What are the elements of poetry and how do these elements enhance poems and add to their overall meaning?)

Thursday
  • Academic English 8 – As a class, we will discuss the activities completed based on the story, “The Dinner Party.” We will examine strategies used to complete the activities. Students will then work in groups to come up with arguments based on the topic discussed within the story: “women can or cannot control emotions in stressful situations as well as men do.” They will prepare for a debate on this topic.


  • Academic English 7 – Quiz on Vocabulary unit 15. Students will then work on a review section in the textbook for verbs. Completed review work is due tomorrow. Verbs test is Monday. (Essential Question: How do verbs function within a sentence to help us effectively communicate and how do we know when to correctly use different types of verbs?)

  • Academic English 8 – Continue preparing for debate on topic from short story, “The Dinner Party.” Students will read a news article discussing “Women fighting on the front lines.” They will discuss this in groups and add to their argument. The debate will take place on Monday.


  • Academic English 7 – Review for test on verbs. Discuss work completed for today from textbook. Test is on Monday. (Essential Question: How do verbs function within a sentence to help us effectively communicate and how do we know when to correctly use different types of verbs?)
