Monday
  • Academic English 8 – Discuss the short story, “The Dinner Party” and how it relates to the news article that students read for today. Students will then work in groups to prepare arguments for each side of a debate that will occur in class. (Essential Question: How do we effectively present our side of an argument and what techniques can we use to persuade others to agree with us?)

  • Academic English 7 – Students will take a unit test on verbs today. Turn in review work from book today. (Essential Question: How do verbs function within a sentence to help us effectively communicate and how do we know when to correctly use different types of verbs?)


  • Honors English 7 – Students will take a unit test on verbs today. Turn in review work from book today. (Essential Question: How do verbs function within a sentence to help us effectively communicate and how do we know when to correctly use different types of verbs?)


  • Practical Literature 11 – Students will read “Of Mice and Men” and begin to complete the study guide for chapters 1 and 2 of the novel. (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Of Mice and Men”?)

  • Honors Reading 7 – Students will be given an anticipation guide sheet to complete individually and we will then discuss responses together. Students will be assigned “Holes” novels today and we will begin reading together in class (Ch. 1-7). (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Holes”?)

Tuesday
  • Academic English 8 – PSSA testing: Period 1 will not meet today due to testing.

  • Academic English 7 – PSSA testing: Period 2 will not meet today due to testing.

  • Honors English 7 – Students will reflect on the first exam taken today and discuss strategies used on the exam as well as what students can do on future exams in order to achieve success. (Essential Question: What strategies can we use on standardized tests to help us achieve success?)

  • Practical Literature 11 – Continue reading “Of Mice and Men” and work on completing the study guide for chapters 1 and 2. (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Of Mice and Men”?)

  • Honors Reading 7 – As a class, we will continue to read “Holes” together (Ch. 1-7) and we will discuss the first chapters read in class. (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Holes”?)

Wednesday
  • Academic English 8 – PSSA testing: Students will reflect on the first day of testing and discuss strategies that they used. We will then continue to prepare arguments in groups for the debate. (Essential Question: What strategies can we use on standardized tests to help us achieve success?)

  • Practical Literature 11 – Finish reading chapters 1 and 2 in class together and complete the study guide for these chapters as well. Students will work in pairs to complete the study guide. (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Of Mice and Men”?)
  • Honors Reading 7 – Students will meet in Literature Circles to discuss the first few chapters that were read (Ch. 1-7) and they will work on completing study guides for these chapters. (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Holes”?)

Thursday
  • Academic English 8 – PSSA testing: Period 1 will not meet today due to testing.


  • Academic English 7 – Students will reflect on the exams taken so far and discuss strategies used on the exams as well as what students can do on future exams in order to achieve success. (Essential Question: What strategies can we use on standardized tests to help us achieve success?)



  • Honors English 7 – PSSA testing: Period 3 will not meet today due to testing.

  • Practical Literature 11 – Discuss chapters 1 and 2 study guide together and clarify any questions. Quiz on chapters 1 and 2 will be tomorrow. (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Of Mice and Men”?) 
  • Honors Reading 7 – Students will meet in Lit. circles again today to work together on completing the study guide for chapters 1 – 7 of “Holes.” (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Holes”?)

Friday
  • Academic English 8 – Students will participate in a debate. Each group will present their initial argument on the topic discussed previously in class and then groups will present their rebuttals accordingly. (Essential Question: What persuasive techniques help us to convince others to agree with a particular side of an argument?)

  • Academic English 7 – Students will begin working with modifiers (adjectives and adverbs). They will work in small groups to identify and use modifiers correctly in writing. (Essential Question: How do adjectives and adverbs function within a sentence and how do we use them effectively to enhance our writing?)
