4/20/15 – 4/24/15

Monday
  • Academic English 8 – Finish reading and working on the nonfiction text, “Harriet Tubman.” Students will complete the context clues activity for vocabulary terms from the text. They will also complete multiple choice questions on the text for comprehension check. As a class, we will discuss the text and completed activities together. Students will turn in completed work today for “Harriet Tubman.” (Essential Question: How do we use context clues effectively to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words in a text?)

  • Academic English 7 – Students will continue working on modifiers today. We will review the work they did on Friday on 2 worksheets (Adverbs and Comparing with Adverbs). Students must turn these in today. (Essential Question: How do adjectives and adverbs function within a sentence and how do we use them effectively to enhance our writing?)

  • Honors English 7 – Students will continue working on modifiers today. We will review the work they did on Friday on 2 worksheets (Adjectives and Comparing with Adjectives). Students must turn these in today. Students will then complete 2 more worksheets on adverbs (Adverbs and Comparing with Adverbs). Students will work on these in class and we will discuss responses together as a class. They will turn these in today as well. (Essential Question: How do adjectives and adverbs function within a sentence and how do we use them effectively to enhance our writing?)

  • Practical Literature 11 – Students will read chapter 3 of “Of Mice and Men” and complete the study guide for chapter 3. We will review chapter 3 tomorrow and take the quiz on Wednesday. (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Of Mice and Men”?)

  • Honors Reading 7 – As a class, we will discuss chapters 1-7 of “Holes” together. Students will turn in the chapter study guide for 1 – 7 today. Students will then read chapters 8 – 17 together in class. (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Holes”?)

Tuesday
  • Academic English 8 – PSSA testing: Period 1 will not meet today due to testing.

  • Academic English 7 – PSSA testing: Period 2 will not meet today due to testing.

  • Honors English 7 – Students will complete a worksheet on using negatives and deciding when to use adjectives and adverbs. Students will work on these with a partner and we will discuss responses as a class. Students must turn in their completed worksheet today. (Essential Question: How do adjectives and adverbs function within a sentence and how do we use them effectively to enhance our writing?)

  • Practical Literature 11 – Review the study guide for chapter 3 and prepare for the quiz, which will be tomorrow. Students will complete a review activity for chapter 3. (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Of Mice and Men”?)

  • Honors Reading 7 – Students will continue reading chapters 8-17 today. The study guide packet for these chapters is due on Friday. (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Holes”?)

Wednesday
  • Academic English 8 – PSSA testing: Students will begin working on verb tense today. As a class, we will discuss the various verb tenses and students will work on practice activities dealing with tense. (Essential Question: What are the various verb tenses and how do we use them correctly in writing and speaking?)

  • Academic English 7 – PSSA testing: Period 2 will not meet today due to testing.



  •  Honors English 7 – PSSA testing: Period 3 will not meet today due to testing.


  • Practical Literature 11 – Take quiz on chapter 3 and turn in chapter 3 study guide sheet. Students will then begin reading chapter 4 of the novel. (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Of Mice and Men”?)
  • Honors Reading 7 – Students will meet in Literature Circles to discuss chapters 8-17 and they will work on completing the study guide for these chapters. (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Holes”?)

Thursday
  • Academic English 8 – PSSA testing: Period 1 will not meet today due to testing.

  • Academic English 7 – Students will work with a partner to complete a worksheet on using negatives correctly and deciding when to use adjectives and adverbs.   • Honors Reading 7 – Students will meet in Lit. circles again today to work together on completing the study guide for chapters 8-17 of “Holes.” (Essential Question: What are the various elements within novels and how are these elements presented within “Holes”?)

Friday
  • Academic English 8 – Students will continue working on the verb tense packet. They will work in small groups to complete practice exercises on tense. (Essential Question: What are the various verb tenses and how do we use them correctly in writing and speaking?)

  • Academic English 7 – Students will begin work today on a writing assignment involving adjectives and adverbs. They will write a descriptive essay responding to the provided prompt. Students must include at least 10 adjectives and 10 adverbs in their essay. The completed essay is due Friday, May 1st. Test on adjectives and adverbs will be Tuesday, April 28th. (Essential Question: How do adjectives and adverbs function within a sentence and how do we use them effectively to enhance our writing?)



  • Honors English 7 – Students will begin work today on a writing assignment involving adjectives and adverbs. They will write a descriptive essay responding to the provided prompt. Students must include at least 10 adjectives and 10 adverbs in their essay. The completed essay is due Friday, May 1st. Test on adjectives and adverbs will be Tuesday, April 28th.
