Monday (11/11): No School for Students (Act 80 Day)

Tuesday (11/12): Bell ringers; check/discuss vocabulary squares (definitions) for unit 3 academic vocab. words; class poll and questions (what matters); first read of “Barrington Irving, Pilot and Educator” – annotate examples of direct and indirect characterization within text; complete comprehension questions on page 269. Test on Barrington Irving…will be Tuesday next week (11/19).
Study Island: New topics to discuss (lesson notes) – connotation and denotation in literature and informational texts (both due Friday); finish analyze conflicting information by end of today


Wednesday (11/13): World Kindness Day, School-wide school board meeting; – Kindness Day check in and reflection; check in sheet; (How can we try to be more kind at school? Why is it important to be kind and empathetic toward one another? How does this connect to our essential question for unit 3?); p. 268 video connection for Barrinton Irving; Comprehension closure quiz for Barrington Irving; p. 270 and 271 (complete the analyze the text questions and craft and structure questions with a partner); complete the practice worksheets for craft and structure with a partner)
Study Island – Individual practice: Connotation and denotation in literature and informational texts (due Friday).

Thursday (11/14): Bell ringers; Discuss analyze the text questions and craft and structure on pages 270-271 and practice worksheet; closure quizzes for analyze the text and craft and structure; complete pages 272 and 273 on vocab/word study and conventions and practice worksheets with a partner; discuss responses together
Study Island – Individual practice: Connotation and denotation in literature and informational texts (due Friday).

Friday (11/15): Bell ringers; closure quizzes (vocab/word study and conventions); Students will then complete a presentation organizer to analyze Barrington Irving’s success; students will make a claim and find evidence within the text to support their claim. Work on study guide for Barrington Irving. Test is Tuesday (11/19).
Study Island – Individual practice: finish connotation and denotation in literature and informational texts (due today).
