Academic English 9 (Periods 1, 4)

Monday: No School (Labor Day)

Tuesday: Review vocabulary 1B (Quiz tomorrow); Introduction to Shakespeare; notes on PPT

Wednesday: Vocabulary unit 1B Quiz; turn in worksheet and sentences; finish notes on Shakespeare and read intro. section in textbook; complete worksheet

Thursday: Read intro. section in textbook and complete worksheet/discuss; discuss Shakespearean language and vocabulary terms for “Romeo and Juliet” (handout); assign reading parts for play

Friday: Begin reading “Romeo and Juliet” together with assigned reading parts; complete study guide questions

Essential Questions: How does learning new vocabulary words help us become better readers, writers, speakers, and listeners?

What themes from Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” are still relevant in today’s society and how do we relate to them?

Which dramatic elements help make Shakespeare’s tragedy, “Romeo and Juliet” so popular with its audience?

Monday: No School (Labor Day)

Tuesday: Review vocabulary exercises 1-6 in packet; quiz tomorrow on unit 1

Wednesday: Vocabulary quiz on unit 1 words; define vocabulary terms for “Hoot” (chapters 1-5); write vocab. sentences for homework (due Friday)

Thursday: Grammar pretest (parts of speech); work on vocabulary sentences that are due tomorrow

Friday: Discuss vocab. sentences for Hoot terms together and turn in; quiz for Hoot terms (ch. 1-5) on Tuesday. Nouns – discuss what students already know; exercise on kinds of nouns

What are the different types of nouns and how do we use them effectively in our writing and speaking?

Monday: No School (Labor Day)

Tuesday: RACERS practice prompt with informational article; Talking to text reading strategy with article

Wednesday: Discuss/analyze talking to text notes with article and Racers response

Thursday: Informational article – answer multiple choice questions together highlighting important information in each question; read second informational article using talking to text method with partner (explain thoughts to partner)

Friday: Racers prompt with second article

Essential Questions: How can we effectively comprehend and analyze informational text and use the text details to support claims?

 

PSSA Language Arts 7/8 (Period 5B: Odd and Even Days)

Monday: No School (Labor Day)

Tuesday (Even): Computer Lab – Study Island Pretest

Wednesday (Odd): Computer Lab – Study Island Pretest

Thursday (Even): PA Standards fact sheet – talking to text reading strategy (discuss together); jigsaw rest of text while using talking to text; write summary of section to share with class; discuss together

Friday (Odd): PA Standards fact sheet – talking to text reading strategy (discuss together); jigsaw rest of text while using talking to text; write summary of section to share with class; discuss together
