Monday – School Closed (Snow Day)

Tuesday
  • Reading 8 (Odd): Students will view a timeline and discuss this together to gain background knowledge for the setting of the play, “The Diary of Ann Frank.” We will assign parts for Act 1 and begin reading Act 1, scene 1 together out loud.
  • Reading 7: Period 6 students will take their quiz on poetry terms. Periods 4 and 6 students will discuss the RACERS prompt from the PSSA lesson packet together on the board. Students will turn this work in and then begin working with a partner on poetry collection 3/4.
  • Practical Literature 12: Students will finish “The Seafarer.” They will answer discussion questions on the poem and we will discuss these together.

Wednesday
  • Reading 8 (Even): Students will answer questions in the study guide packet on Act 1, scene 1. We will then begin reading scene 2 together as a class.
  • Reading 7: Students will complete the poetry packet for collections 3 and 4. As a class, we will discuss these together focusing on elements of poetry discussed in the notes.
  • Practical Literature 12: Students will create their own kennings based on those identifies in “The Seafarer.” Students will also begin reading background info and the poem, “The Wanderer.”

Thursday

  •   Reading 8 (Odd): Students will answer questions in the study guide packet on Act 1, scene 1. We will then begin reading scene 2 together as a class.


  •  Reading 7: Students will begin reading the next collection of poems together and they will answer the questions on their own as individual practice with poetry analysis.


  • Practical Literature 12: Students will read the poem, “The Wanderer” and identify elements such as the speaker, theme, setting, etc. As a class, we will discuss these elements together.


Friday

  •  Reading 8 (Even): Students will continue reading Act 1, scene 2 together as a class. When finished, students will complete the study guide section for this scene with a partner. They will also complete an individual writing prompt for this section of the play.

  • Reading 7: Students will complete the next poetry packet and we will begin to discuss these together as a class. Students will then begin a writing assignment to create their own poem using certain sound devices and elements of figurative language.
  • Practical Literature 12: Students will begin reading background information for the next poem, “The Wife’s Lament.” They will read this poem in class together and identify poetic elements.
