English Literature –
Grade 8 (Periods 1, 6, 7)
Monday (10/9): In-Service
Day
Tuesday (10/10): Retest
– Selection Test 1 – Unit 1 – The Medicine Bag/Comparing Media. Students who
want to retake the first selection test for unit 1 on Pearson Realize will do
so today in class. Students who are not retaking the test will work on the
nonfiction narrative (performance task) for unit 1. The final copy is due
tomorrow and must be typed and submitted on Google Docs.
Wednesday (10/11): Data
Delay in a.m. Students will begin the small group learning section in Unit 1 of
the textbook. Students will be placed into small groups. As a class, we will
discuss/review the information on pages 40 – 43. Students will be assigned specific
roles within their group, such as project manager, recorder, etc. Students are
responsible for adhering to the small group procedures/guidelines and for
completing the requirements of their assigned role as they work with their
group members. Students will work with their group to complete the next several
text assignments in the book. They will be assigned the initial text and work
together for 4 days before reviewing the information/skills and taking the
assessment for the text(s)/topics. Groups will then rotate to the next
selection and repeat the process. Groups are responsible for completing all
tasks for each selection in the textbook and for completing the assessment
online (Pearson Realize.com).
Thursday (10/12):
Day 1 (1st Rotation): Small Group Learning Section – Students will
work in their assigned groups to complete the tasks within the book related to
their assigned text(s). I will be meeting with each group each day to check
progress, answer questions, clarify confusions, etc.
Friday (10/13): Day
2 (1st Rotation): Small Group Learning Section – Students will work
in their assigned groups to complete the tasks within the book related to their
assigned text(s). I will be meeting with each group each day to check progress,
answer questions, clarify confusions, etc.

English Composition –
Grade 8 (Periods 3, 5, 8)
Monday (10/9): In-Service
Day
Tuesday (10/10): Finish
and submit nonfiction narrative. Students should complete the revision and
editing process (if not already finished) and submit their final copy. The
final copy is due by tomorrow (10/11).
Wednesday (10/11):
Data Delay in a.m. Students will view a lesson on the whiteboard from Pearson
Realize on verb moods. Students will receive a note/practice worksheet on verb
moods. We will discuss notes and examples together and complete the practice
worksheet. As a class, we will check responses together. Quiz on verb moods
will be Friday on Study Island (group session). If time permits, students will
complete a word study worksheet on the Latin suffix – ous. We will check
responses to the worksheet together in class.
Thursday (10/12):
Students will view a lesson on the whiteboard on Pearson Realize on the topic
of tone. Students will then receive a note/practice worksheet on tone that they
will complete independently. We will check responses together during class.
Students will take a mini quiz on author’s tone on Study Island (group session)
at the end of class today.
Friday (10/13): Study
Island WIN Time on electronic devices – Study Island: work on individual
lessons (track progress using charts) – conference with teacher. *Students
should go to extra practice that they need from the Selection Test on The
Medicine Bag/Comparing Media to prepare for the retest. Retest will be on
Tuesday.
