ELA 8 (Periods ¾,
5/6, 7/8)
Monday (8/27): Classroom
rules and expectations, parent letters, course overview, about me bubble name
activity.
Tuesday (8/28): Class
meeting: 7th period. About me bubble name activity – finish and
begin introductions. Each day, a few students will share their poster with the
class as a way to introduce themselves. If time permits, go over iPad
procedures (assign iPad numbers) and log onto Pearson Realize to start the
beginning of year test. Each student will receive a paper copy of the test
also.
Wednesday (8/29): Pearson
Realize beginning of year test. Students will fill in the paper copy as well as
the online test. The beginning of year test will help gather baseline data
about students’ current ELA knowledge and skills in order to help drive
instruction.
Thursday (8/30):
Pearson Realize beginning of year test. Students will continue taking the test
until they finish all questions. Once they finish the test on Pearson, students
will write down their areas of need and strength as well as their test score on
their data sheet. Students will keep data sheets in their folders/binders.
Students will then log onto Study Island and begin the ELA grade 8 benchmark 1
test. Each student will receive a paper copy of the benchmark test to fill out
along with entering their answers online.
Friday (8/31): Pep
rally at 1:30 p.m. Students will work on the Study Island benchmark test.

in order to be successful in ELA 8?
What ELA knowledge and skills do we currently have and how
will we use our test scores to help guide our learning?
