·         Academic English 9 – Check vocabulary definitions; review definitions, worksheet, and sentences for vocab. lesson 12A. Students will also review for the test on Act 1 tomorrow. Students will also work with their partners on the “Facebook” project for Romeo and Juliet.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will read Act 4 of The Crucible together as a class with assigned parts. Students will also complete study guide questions in small groups for Act 4.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will finish the generational diversity module today. Students will discuss the notes on different generations and complete a group activity about generation Y.

Tuesday

·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a test on Romeo and Juliet, Act 1. After the test, students will begin reading Act 2, scene 1 of the play together as a class. Students will also complete vocabulary for Act 2 for homework. Students will then work on study guide questions for this scene.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will continue reading Act 4 together as a class and students will work in small groups to finish the study guide questions for the act.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will begin the communication module and the first session on interpersonal communication skills. Students will take notes and discuss the topic as a class. Students will also complete the “2 truths and a lie” activity and discuss results. Students will also participate in the “lookers and runners” activity in teams.

Wednesday

·         Academic English 9 – Students will continue reading R and J, Act 2, scene 1. Students will work on the study guide together in small groups also. We will also review the vocabulary for Act 2. As a class, we will begin to discuss the study guide questions for scene 1.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will finish reading Act 4 of The Crucible together. As a class, we will discuss the study guide questions for Act 4.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will begin session two on listening skills by taking notes and discussing this topic as a class. Students will also complete an activity to explore listening skills together. Students will also complete a personal analysis of listening habits and discuss personal biases and prejudices that affect listening.

Thursday

·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a quiz on Vocabulary lesson 12A and then define the terms for lesson 12B. Students will also be given the worksheet to complete for lesson 12B and write sentences for this lesson on their own. Students will then finish the rough copy of the facebook project for R. and J.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will review for a quiz on Act 4 by playing a review game together as a class. Students will also begin creating a character map to show the relationships between the characters of the play.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will develop a personal action plan related to listening skills. Students will then begin session three (nonverbal communication) and, as a class, we will discuss notes on this topic.

Friday

·          Academic English 9 – Students will read Romeo and Juliet, Act 2, scene 2 together as a class with assigned parts. Students will also work on Act 2, scene 2 study guide questions together in small groups.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will take a quiz on Act 4 of the play. When finished, students will continue working on their character map.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will complete an activity on body language together as a class. As a class, we will discuss the results of this activity. Students will also begin session four (giving and receiving feedback). We will discuss notes together as a class and students will complete the communication model phases on a graphic organizer.

Academic English 9 - Essay Question: Shakespeare was a successful playwright in his own time (and still is popular in ours) because he was able to appeal to people of widely different backgrounds. In an essay, identify a section of the first act of Romeo and Juliet that would have especially pleased the groundlings, or poorer spectators, and explain why it would have appealed to them. Then do the same for a passage that would have won the approval of the nobility.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will discuss the 7 types of power and will complete an activity on these types of power in groups. Students will complete a leadership activity in groups and discuss the results together as a class. Students will also discuss ethical qualities of leaders together as a class and complete an activity in groups.

·         Academic English 9 – Students will work in small groups on the study guide questions for scene 5. As a class, we will discuss these questions together. Students will also continue working on their “Facebook” project with their partners. We will also review Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet in preparation for a test on Friday.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will discuss and examine examples of flow charts and how they are used as tools. Students will also create a flow chart for an activity or process. Students will then begin session five on conflict management. Students will discuss notes on conflict management

·         Academic English 9 – Students will read scene 4 together as a class with assigned parts. In small groups, students will complete the study guide questions for scene 4 and we will discuss these as a class for review. Students will also be assigned a “Facebook” project and will begin working on this in class.

Tuesday

·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a quiz on Act 1, scene 1 of R. and J. As a class, we will also continue reading the play together. We will begin reading scene 2 and students will respond to study guide questions for this scene as we read.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will take a quiz on Act 1 of The Crucible and the literary terms from the play. Students will then be given a writing prompt to respond to regarding Puritan beliefs and how they can be applied to our world today. Students will work on writing the rough draft in class today.

·         Y.E.S. -  Students will take the second part of the TABE test (Math) today. Students will respond to reading questions on the answer sheet provided.

Wednesday

·         Academic English 9 – Students will continue to read scene 2 of Romeo and Juliet together and students will work in groups to complete the study guide questions.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will finish writing their rough draft and peer edit these in order to begin writing the final copy of their essay. Final copies are due by Friday.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will finish discussing group development and the stages that exist within it. As a class, we will then continue on to session three, which is “effective meeting skills.” Students will participate in a group activity and discuss the results together as a class.

Thursday

·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a quiz on Vocabulary lesson 10B and then define the terms for lesson 11A. Students will also be given the worksheet to complete for lesson 11A and write sentences for this lesson on their own. As a class, we will also discuss verbs and students will take notes on verbs and complete practice exercises in the textbook.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will begin reading Act 2 of the play, The Crucible, together as a class. Students will also work together in pairs to answer the study guide questions for Act 2.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will discuss and take notes on effective meeting strategies. Students will review the activity from yesterday and recall the results of the activity. Students will also begin session four (Problem Solving). In groups, students will discuss barriers to problem solving and using teams as a problem-solving tool.

·          Academic English 9 – Students will finish reading scene 2 together and, as a class, we will discuss the study guide questions for scene 2. Students will review for a quiz on scene 2, which will be Monday. Students will also be assigned a “Facebook” project to complete for next week.

Students will also discuss the homework assignments from Friday (Shakespeare vocabulary sheets). Students will discuss the literary terms and other vocabulary terms for Romeo and Juliet together as a class.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will continue reading The Crucible together as a class with assigned parts. Students will also work together in pairs to complete study guide questions for Act 1.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will continue with the first module on teamwork. They will take notes on behavioral styles and discuss these as a class. Students will also assess where they fall on the scale of different communication styles. Students will then discuss and take notes on the four styles of behavior and determine which style best fits them. Students will read about the style they fall into and discuss what is important to learn about each style.

Tuesday

·         Academic English 9 – Students will review the worksheet completed last week on Shakespeare’s life and career. As a class, we will discuss student responses to these questions. Students will also be assigned to parts in the play and read act 1, scene 1 together. Students will answer study guide questions as we read scene 1.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will continue to read Act 1 of The Crucible by following along with the audio book. Students will also work together in small groups to complete the study guide questions for Act 1. Students will then review for the quiz on Act 1 together as a class.

·         Y.E.S. -  Students will continue with the teamwork module and continue taking notes on behavioral styles from yesterday. We will finish session one and continue on to session two, which is team effectiveness. Students will work in groups to discuss what the difference is between a group and a team. ·         Practical Literature 11 – Introduction to “The Crucible” and the Salem Witch Trials – Students will view the History Channel’s video on the Salem Witch Trials and complete a note taking sheet while viewing the video.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will begin writing a rough draft of an essay on their dream job. When finished writing the rough draft, students will proof read and peer edit their essays.

Tuesday

·         Academic English 9 – Students will finish watching the video on Shakespeare and they will complete the video questions to use as notes. When finished, we will discuss the video questions together and compare/contrast Shakespeare’s life and times to modern society to point out similarities and differences.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Students will continue to watch a video on the Salem Witch Trials and discuss the questions together as a class. Students will then begin reading Act 1 of The Crucible together. Students will be assigned parts to read and they will also be given the study guide for Act 1 to complete as we read. Students will work together on the study guide questions.

·         Y.E.S. - Period three: Students will listen to a speaker from Lincoln Technical Institute speak about “Life after high school.”Period six: Students will work on typing the final copy of the 5 paragraph essay on their “dream job.”

Wednesday

·         Academic English 9 – Students will begin reading Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet. Students will be assigned parts to read and will complete the study guide questions for Act 1, scene 1 after reading scene 1 together.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Define literary devices presented in The Crucible and find examples of each element within the play as students read. Students will continue to read Act 1 of the play and work together in small groups to complete study guide questions.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will be placed into groups to discuss the list of businesses offered for tours this semester. Students will discuss their top picks and as a class, we will narrow the list to our top two picks as a class. Students will also begin the first module for the course, which is teamwork. Students will take notes on “communication skills needed for teamwork” and they will also discuss key points during class. Students will then complete a team activity on self esteem.

Thursday

·         Academic English 9 – Students will take a quiz on Vocabulary lesson 9B and then define the terms for lesson 10A. Students will also be given the worksheet to complete for lesson 10A and write sentences for this lesson on their own. When finished, students will define vocabulary terms for Romeo and Juliet and discuss Shakespearean terms.

·         Practical Literature 11 – Discuss the connection to McCarthyism during the 1950s and the parallels between the play and the events of the Red Scare. Students will complete a web quest on McCarthyism to answer questions about the events of the period together in small groups.

·         Y.E.S. - Students will continue with the first module on teamwork. They will take notes on behavioral styles and discuss these as a class. Students will also assess where they fall on the scale of different communication styles. Wednesday

·         Academic English 9 – Students will finish watching the video on Shakespeare and they will complete the video questions to use as notes. When finished, we will discuss the video questions together and compare/contrast Shakespeare’s life and times to modern society to point out similarities and differences.

·         PSSA Reading 11/12 - Students will complete lesson 18 in the PSSA book on analyzing literary structures.
