English Literature –
Grade 8 (Periods 1, 6, 7)
Monday (3/26): Students will continue
reading Act 1 of the play, “Anne Frank.” Students will mark up the text as we
read through the scenes in Act 1. Work on close reads for scenes 3 and 4 today.
We will discuss/check these on Wednesday. Turn in vocab. squares for concept
vocab. words on page 100.
Tuesday (3/27): Students will continue
reading Act 1 with assigned parts. Read Act 1, scene 5 of the play. Students
will complete the comprehension questions at the end of scene 5.
Wednesday (3/28): Students will finish
Act 1 of Anne Frank. Students will work on the pages that follow Act 1 to
analyze the text, focus on craft and structure of the text, and examine key
vocabulary terms and conventions (verbs). They will also receive a study guide
that is due tomorrow. Test on Act 1 will be on Monday.
Thursday (3/29): Review
Act 1 – go over the study guide for Act 1 today. Students will prepare for the
test on Act 1 today by reviewing the material and playing a review game.
Test on Act 1 is Monday.
Friday (3/30): No School

clauses – due by the end of the day today.

– due tomorrow.

margins for the first few scenes that we have read (1 and 2).

reading Act 1 with assigned parts. We will discuss key passages as we read and
examine what students are marking in the text.

Practice test – Students will get the results of their test back and we will go
over results together. Independent practice on WIN time for phrases and clauses.
Wednesday (3/21): WIN time: phrases and clauses – due by end
of the day today.

modifiers and group session. This topic is due on Monday.

work on argument assignment. Students will choose to complete either the
argumentative essay (picking one topic to write about from the list provided)
or the advertisement. The final copy of the assignment must be submitted on
Google classroom by March 14.
Tuesday (3/13): Students will be back
in the regular classroom for Lit. class today. Students will receive the intro.
letter for Unit 2 of the textbook. We will begin working on the introduction to
Unit 2: The Holocaust.
Wednesday (3/14): Argument project/essay
is due today. Students must submit it via Google Classroom. Continue the unit 2
introduction together as a whole class. We will also begin the first read of
Act 1 of the play, “Anne Frank.” Vocabulary squares are due on Friday.
Thursday (3/15): Project presentations: Students will
present advertisements/commercials in class today.
Friday (3/16): Project presentations:
Students will present advertisements/commercials in class today (if more time
is needed from yesterday). If we finish with time left, we will continue with
unit 2: Anne Frank. Vocabulary Squares are due today. Students will turn in
their squares for credit.
